OAU Students Protest Over Poor Education In Nigeria


Still in celebration mood of Nigeria’s 55th Independent Day anniversary, some students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have expressed their grievances on the decline of education system in the country.
The protesting students reportedly took their anger to Ibadan as they converged at Iwo Road enroute the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

The president of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the school, Omotayo Akande called on President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the 26% education budget as recommended by UNESCO in Nigeria.
“The dwindling educational system in Nigeria is alarming and our Educational facilities are becoming rotten daily, we say no to this and beg for the Federal government to inculcate the 26% Educational budget instead of the 8%,” he said.
In another development, a different section of the institution’s students gathered in their legendary hall to celebrate the independence break. The Awolowo hall residents, popularly known as Awo Boys converged this morning for a novelty match in incredible overall Green White Green attire to celebrate the country and their hall’s hero.
